Major Project : Kaki
INSTRUCTIONS
In Week3, we consulted about our refined concept and showed some references we
had in mind for the app. We tried to solidify our concept furthermore and
figure out our positioning, deliverables and branding direction like colour
pallete & typeface. We did find some colour palletes and typeface that we thought would fit the art direction style we wanted to go for so we tested them out and shortlisted a few.

Week 1
In Week 1, I only had very rough ideas individually but I was invited to
collaborate together as a group to come up with our project. So Athiyah and
I decided to form a group together and we spent an entire week just sharing
all the ideas we had individually and brainstorming on better concepts that
we can work on together. We had 2 main ideas that we had most hope on which
was 1) An app that allows people to make friends online and do things
together when their own group of friends are unavailable. 2) An app that
helps improve Taylor's students life with the facilities available to
us.
Week 2
We proposed our 1st main idea to Ms Anis, but we were told to refine our
concept and refrain from having stalking elements (because we wanted a
feature of being able to look at different users from the map and what they
were doing). We were advised that instead it could be a concept of making
friends through a healthier environment like clubs/societies. So in this
week, we did a little more research and thought more in depth about the
problems related to our concept.
Week 3
In Week 4, we were still finalising our decisions for the design direction and also our name for the app itself that we were brainstorming for the previous weeks.
After finalising our app name to be Kaki which is a Malaysian Slang/Term for friends/buddy, we started creating the google form for our survey regarding our target audience's preference for a community app like ours.

Week 5
In Week 5, after we sent out our survey, we collected our responses and analysed them based on some important factors such as 1. the importance of targeting local communities 2. how often do our target audience uses an app similar to ours and how we can convert the non users 3. target audience's hobbies and social life. After analysing, we were able to create our own customer journey map and user personas from the results we get from survey.
Week 6
In Week 6, when we consulted our user personas with Mr Asrizal, we were recommended to reduce the number of personas we have so in the end we removed the ones that are kinda similar to each other. I started working on the app wireframes this week while Athiyah worked on creating the logo. We also added SWOT Analysis for our own app as previously we only did for our competitors.
Week 7
In Week 7, we had our proposal presentation. I would say the presentation went well, better than we expected. So after presentation, we started working on our 4 character designs. Athiyah and I split the character designs to 2 each. After we discussed each of the character traits, we chose which character we wanted to work on and started sketching our ideas.
Week 8 - Week14
From Week 8 to Week 12, there was quite a few challenges when working on our character designs. Firstly, our initial design couldnt reflect our chracter traits well so we had to change the shape to a more simple and direct one. But even after refining it a little, it could still be simpler so i had to change the shape again. There was just alot of back and forth and refining from here onwards regarding the shape of the character's body or hands and legs and expression. Honestly at first, I really enjoyed doing the character design I was very happy working on the designs but as each week passes by and we had to keep changing and refining the character designs, I slowly started losing the motivation to work on the designs because not only I was very exhausted from changing and redoing the illustrations, the illustration style is also different from what I originally thought and wanted it to be. But honestly looking back at it now, it's alright the designs we have now are not that bad either they still look cute to me sometimes :,) While working on the 2 character designs, I also had to work on completing the app wireframe and the actual design for the app myself which was VERY tiring and stressful. This was probably because I decided that instead of using real life pictures from the internet to be used in our app, I wanted to put illustrations instead as the images online didnt look nice in the app and it was not the style I wanted for the app. So I had to actually do alot of illustrations as well. I had multiple mental breakdowns during those few weeks. Initial Sketches for Rayne & Willow Character Designs

In the meantime, I also worked on poster designs and 3 instagram posts but was later refined by Athiyah as I was struggling with the other tasks I had.

I came up with the concept for the animation which was basically like someone tapping into the Kaki app and the app starts loading and playing the logo animation followed by a few app pages in a phone mockup and then the brand tagline as well as a call to action for ending. While I worked on the rest of the animation, I had to ask Athiyah help me with the first part which was the tapping into phone and I'm really grateful she said yes when I asked for her help last minute.
